First Look: Analysis of our Dynasty Team

When I saw the #Nasty26 dynasty leagues being advertised on twitter I knew I had to sign up. This league is scored by standard PPR and is run through MyFantasyLeague.com . The starting lineup requirements for this league are:

1 QB

2 RB's

3 WR'S

1 TE

1 Flex (RB, WR, TE)

This league is also a BESTBALL league with no head-to-head matchups. Which means that you don’t enter a starting lineup each week. It will just take the best scores from each position and automatically have them as your starters. Also, since there is no head-to-head this league is only based on points scored.

So here we go, my team looks like this:

QB: I didn’t go after a young stud like Andrew Luck or Russell Wilson in the early rounds since it is bestball. I waited until the 7th round, where I stacked a good mix of age and talent over the next few rounds. I grabbed Bridgewater, and both Mannings. I am confident that Teddy will be able to continue to grow with the return of Adrian Peterson, the trade for Mike Wallace, and Charles Johnson developing quickly. While he may not score the highest of the three very often this year, he could be a great fantasy QB in the upcoming years.

I really believe that Peyton’s decline last year was due to his injuries. Now that he is back to being healthy and in a more balanced offense, he should continue to be a top 5 fantasy QB.

Many signs point to Eli having a career year in 2015. OC Ben Mcadoo has repeatedly said that the biggest improvements are made in the 2nd year of his offense and Eli seems to have noticed that as well so far in practice. He has a stud #1 WR in Odell Beckham Jr, he gets Victor Cruz back from injury, and the Giants signed pass-catching back Shane Vereen from the Patriots. It definitely hurts that one of his best o-lineman will be out this season due to injury, but overall he should be able to capitalize this year with all the weapons he has.

Grade: A

RB: This is the position I am thinnest at currently. Hyde and Coleman both have the potential to be huge studs in the future but I am a little worried about them this year. I drafted Gore in the 13th to fill in this year with some good games. My favorite pick was getting Joseph Randle in the 9th round. He has the upside to be a 1,000+ yard back in that cowboys O and was very cheap. He is only 23 years old and has shown flashes of potential. Also, the Ray Rice and CJ pick may not end with any return, but in the late rounds of a 28 round draft, it is pretty tough to find anyone that will make an impact. If they get signed to a team, you never know what could happen. My RB’s are very iffy, they could be fantastic or complete busts.

Grade: C

WR: Wide Receivers flew off the board in this draft. I was deciding between taking Calvin and a stud RB with my 2nd round pick and I am very glad I took Calvin because of how many receivers went off the board in the next few rounds. Starting off the draft with Demaryius and Calvin is never bad in a WR heavy (Start 3 + 1 Flex) PPR league.

I also really liked my pick of Jarvis Landry as well. He provides a high floor because of the amount of targets he should get and should end up in my lineup every week. As a rookie he had 84 catches and I only expect that to grow entering his second year. Reports from Mini-camps and OTA’s have been nothing but good talking about how reliable his hands are, and the chemistry between him and Tannehill. It wouldn’t surprise me if he comes close to 100 catches this year.

I also think that Steve Smith and Andre Johnson could both make huge contributions as well. While they both are nearing the end of their careers, they have huge opportunities ahead. Steve Smith will remain the #1 WR in a Marc Trestman run offense. This should provide for a lot of targets for him and opportunity to be successful. Andre Johnson will have the opportunity to play with the best QB of his career. Reggie Wayne posted great numbers with Luck at age 33 and I think Andre Johnson can do the same at age 34.

Grade: A-

TE: I am very satisfied with my TE position especially since it is bestball scoring. Greg Olsen should provide me with week to week consistency, while a few big games from Josh Hill could give me an advantage at this position. Grabbing Owen Daniels may turn out to be a sneaky pick if he ends up starting. He has been a solid receiving TE in the NFL for a while, and Kubiak’s scheme is very TE friendly.

Grade: B+

Overall: I am happy with my draft and I think I am an immediate contender to win. If my running backs can come up with some huge games, and my WR’s live up to their expectations, finishing top 3 shouldn’t be a problem in 2015. I have a very good mix of youth and talent and am very excited to see what this team will be able to do for the upcoming years.

Overall Grade: B+
